JDSU Introduces New and Unique LTE Smartphone App
JDSU, creators of communications test and measurement solutions, have designed and developed a smartphone app that allows wireless carriers to access an LTE network analysis tool using an Android smartphone. The app essentially simplifies LTE radio frequency (RF) service verification and troubleshooting, and reduces network management costs, thereby enabling the collection of critical network performance data.
JDSU believe that smartphones enabled with their LTE RF optimisation application will mean that engineers can carry out actual test scenarios as LTE networks are tested, enabling the collection, recording, playback and transfer of data from network trouble spots for additional analysis and ultimately, resolution. The Android smartphone app automates and delivers performance data on voice calls, file transfer uploads, downloads and browsing. Data is geo-located via the phone’s global positioning system or a Bluetooth device.
Jerry Gentle, Senior Vice President in JDSU’s Communications Test & Measurement Business segment, said, “JDSU is innovating with new ways to quickly, easily and cost-effectively extract and analyse network data that is critical to delivering a quality wireless service experience. This application is an example of our ability to design test solutions with enhanced communications capabilities that can read and analyse data sent from any smart device.”
The JDSU E6474A drive test platform is flexible, customisable and scalable, optimising wireless networks and data services. The platform also incorporates an RF receiver that can measure and troubleshoot network RF coverage and delivery of service across existing 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, WiMAX™, LTE and VoIP. Features and benefits include:
• B9990A Voice and VoIP quality measurement – monitor and optimise the quality of the network.
• E6474A Option 7xx data and video measurement – provides a comprehensive set of tools for testing data and video connections over the network. Parallel sequencing enables full exercising of 3G and 4G broadband data capabilities.
• E6474A Option 850 handheld network monitor – easy configuration and full integration with the drive test platform.
• E6474A wireless network optimisation software – customisable and scalable for the optimisation of wireless networks.
• W1314A RF measurement receiver – powerful, portable solution meeting all RF measurement needs, with built-in GPS, 4-port USB interface, and multiple technology support.
• Available as a MaxG managed service enabling mobile operators to quickly and economically assess real time quality and availability of services.
• Available as a RCATS Active Mobile service providing a range of tests for continuous testing and monitoring of mobile data services; for testing voice, SMS, WAP, FTP and HTTP services.
JDSU’s RF optimisation smartphone tool can be integrated with the drive test platform and provides network operators with a complete test collection and analysis solution.
